The Way of Fire – Traditional Kundalinī Hatha Yoga – is taught in four successive levels:

BODY CENTERED PATH

Using meditation alone can leave you struggling to integrate your passions and life activities with your spiritual path. Whereas, you can see by the introductory quotes from the great masters of realization above, that the attainment of full realization including your body, emotions & passions, as well as your mind, is the goal and final fruit of traditional Kundalinī Hatha Yoga. This final fruit extends all the way to the difficult to obtain Rainbow Body transmogrification.

YOGA IS A COMPLETE PATH

The Yogin’s path, or the Way of Fire, has many clear and non-ambiguous checkpoints
along the way, enabling the practitioner to easily track their progress. The beauty of this path is that it includes your emotions, sexual desire, physical health, conduct integrated with the state of Flowing Presence, and the liberation of your conditioned mind to abide in its on enlightened Nature. This makes Kundalinī Hatha Yoga a complete Path of spiritual realization.

HOW DOES TMY'S YOGA DIFFER?

Modern Postural Yoga found in yoga studios is an off-shoot of ancient Indian military fitness training for soldiers. It has veered off in a new direction that cultivates only physical attributes such as – beauty, health, fitness, etc., and often grafts onto it elements of Buddhism, Patanjali, Tai Ji Quan or Classical Tantra in order to appear more spiritual.

In direct contrast, Trika Mahāsiddha Yoga seeks to re-establish Traditional Yoga as a valid and comprehensive means of spiritual practice leading to radiant enlightenment. TMY’s Kundalinī Hatha Yoga is part of the unbroken lineage transmission of the ancient realized yogins of the Himalayas.

THE FOCUSES OF LEVEL I & II

In Level I the body-energy complex & the five elements are purified and strengthened. Building on that foundation, in Level II you’ll re-create your body-energy complex as a potent container (kumbha) of the powers of wind, fire and water. The kumbha is formed by the combination of specific pranayama technique progressions, mudra, bandha, asana and visualizations. The next step you’ll learn is how to generate and store energy in this lower kumbha.

Whereas the focus in Level I was on balancing the pranas (energies of vitality) by removing energy blockages in the channels and harmonizing the five elements, in Level II you’ll focus on two skills:

  1. Generating and storing abundant life-force energy (prana), and...
  2. Learning to circulate the prana through an awakened channel system (nadi) that then distributes the energy throughout the body-mind complex as needed to propel the profound inner alchemy that is a hallmark of Kundalinī Hatha Yoga.

TEXT STUDY

Relevant verses from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika (a core text on the practice of Kundalinī Hatha Yoga) will be unpacked, guided by the experiential knowledge coming from the lineage masters of the Oral-Practice Tradition to clarify what is Kundalinī and how it works. To this Dharma Bodhi will add 30+ years of practice experience in the tradition to further deepen your grasp of this occult process.

EMPOWERMENT CEREMONIES

Level II begins with key ceremonial empowerments known as abhiśekham. These ceremonies connect you directly to the living transmission of the tradition and plant the seeds of your ultimate realization. Each ceremony confers the body, speech, mind and essence components of the empowerments.

In Level II, you’ll receive the Mā Pranaśakti (Mother of Power) and Śambhu Nātha (Śiva Mahādeva as “Lord of the Ground of Equanimity”) empowerment ceremonies.

Mā Pranaśakti is the red colored goddess, icon of the summation of the enlightened quality of all manifested Life-Force energy. Her empowerment awakens your connection to the unlimited potential energy of your Essential Nature that you’ll be working with throughout your entire journey to self-liberation via yoga.

Śambhu Nātha is the emanation of Śiva as the Spacious-Hosting aspect of our Nature. This empowerment enables you to avoid attachment to the energies and experiences of the Kundalinī process and to remember the impermanence of the base of enlightenment.

You’ll also receive mantra empowerments. Mantras are packets of vibrational sound-power encoded to give a tangible experience of the specific energy they represent – such as wisdom, compassion, courage, strength, etc. You will receive the mantra empowerments of Gayatri and the Mahāmrityunjaya both of which are essential foundation mantras that prepare your energy body for the alchemical transformations you will undergo. Practicing them also gives two fruits of enlightenment - radiant luminosity (Gayatri mantra) and ultimate non-attachment (Mahāmrtyunjaya mantra) respectively.

General Topics Covered On the Retreat:

  • Mahasiddha Yoga Asana - Their specific effects on the esoteric anatomy, elements and prana
  • Bandha (Part Two) - Advanced instructions in the correct and safe performance of the 6 main psycho-energetic “locks” used to prevent subtle “prana-illnesses” caused by improper performance of bandha
  • Kriyā Yoga – preparatory & generation kriyās
  • Nadi Practice – working with your Light, Sound and Breath in the channels to purify, strengthen and activate the channels and the flow of consciousness-energy in them
  • Advanced Pranayama: Learning advanced methods of controlling your prana in preparation for Mahākumbhaka
  • Learning how to increase the length of your breath-hold safely (2 min. and beyond)
  • Text Study (Part One): Oral transmission unpacking relevant verses from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • View Training: Understanding the philosophy & path of Mahāsiddha Yoga as the complementary counterpart to the Way of Meditation
  • Esoteric Anatomy: understanding the nature and function of prana, nadi, cakra, bindu, nada, and kala in the alchemical processes involved in the awakening and circulation of Kundalinī via Trika Mahāsiddha Yoga
  • Dismantling misleading new-age views of cakras, channels and the path that can subvert your authentic development
  • Nadi Cleansing prior to raising Kundalinī
  • Mantra Vidyā - Establishing a Benefic Guiding Connection to iconic vehicles of enlightenment (deity yoga for kundalini yogins)
  • Higher Cakra Function – establishing tangible results of higher cakra function
  • Diet, Sleep and Exercise for amassing prana
  • Dream Yoga and its relationship to Kundalinī Hatha Yoga

The purpose of the Level 2 training is to learn and master the techniques and control of your mind and physiology necessary from which to launch into the Bliss of Fire in Level 3 wherein you will learn the final practices of Kundalinī Hatha Yoga – Mahākumbhaka.

About the Teacher

Dharma Bodhi (Kol Martens)

Dharma Bodhi began practicing yoga at seven years of age. In his teens he moved into practices of Chan Buddhism and Daoism received through his Chinese martial arts teachers in New York. After completing his chiropractic degree he studied in an Oral-Practice Tradition of Non-Dual Śaiva Tantra, taking initiation into one of the Daśnami Orders of practice from India. In 1996 he complete ācārya training under his Śaiva gurus. This training emphasized traditional Kundalinī Hatha Yoga and a progressive system of Meditation, along supportive studies in ritual/pūjā and yoga texts. Since graduating as a Śaiva ācārya, he took refuge with a great master of Bönpo Dzogchen meditation, and studied with him by taking multiple trips per year to his monastery in India for a period of 8 years.  He studies both Dzogchen meditation & yoga (trul khor), and Dzogchen preliminary and advanced texts. Both his Śaiva and Dzogchen masters gave him the task of teaching these systems stripped of the unnecessary aspects of the cultures and languages they are found in. His Dzogchen master also gave him the task of translating two Tibetan texts. One of which is finished and the other is in process. He now lives with his wife, Sahaja Dakinī, and their two children in rural Maine, USA. He is developing a practice hermitage in the wilderness of Maine and a European teaching center on the border of Italy and Switzerland.
